American streaming service Netflix is raising its prices in Belgium. The Basic subscription is going up 1 euro per month, while the Standard and Premium packages will increase by 2 euros. ‘Because we are constantly increasing the value we offer our members, we occasionally ask them to pay a little more,’ a spokesperson explained.
The cheapest package, Basic, will now cost €10.99 per month. Customers will not be able to stream on multiple devices at the same time, which is possible with Standard (€16.99) and Premium (€21.99). The image and sound quality also differ.
Subscribers opting for Standard or Premium can pay extra to share Netflix with someone outside their family. The price increases by €3.99 or €4.99 per additional member.
The new prices apply immediately to new members. Existing Netflix customers will receive an email notifying them about the changes, after which the new price will be applied from the next payment period.
Netflix is by far the most popular pay streaming service in Flanders, according to the Digimeter survey conducted earlier this year by research institute Imec. Almost half of all Flemings (47 per cent) watch Netflix at least once a month. Disney+ is in second place with 19 per cent, while the Flemish service Streamz is third with 15 per cent.
The previous price hike dates from May last year.
