As a result of illegal drone activity near the airport on Tuesday evening and night forty flights from the main Belgian air hub are cancelled today, the airport authorities say. These include 16 departing and 24 arriving flights. Moreover, there were still many delays this morning.
The disruption is mainly due to some aircraft not reaching the correct airport yesterday evening as a result of the drone scare at Zaventem (Flemish Brabant), where the airport is situated.
Brussels Airlines: ‘Aircraft and crew members still stranded at other airports’
Belgian flag carrier Brussels Airlines expected disruption to both departing and arriving flights to be over by noon. Work was in full swing all morning, the spokesperson of the Sabena-successor Nico Cardone said earlier.
‘We still have aircraft and crew members stranded at airports in Ostend, Charleroi and Lille (France). We are trying to get them to Zaventem.’
