After scoring a penalty for his Italian club Napoli, Kevin De Bruyne immediately felt pain in the back of his right thigh. His muscles had once again been damaged.

The extent of the damage is now clear. De Bruyne will need surgery to repair his hamstrings.

For the Red Devil, player in the national squad, this means he will once again be unable to play football for a very long time. Intensive rehabilitation with physiotherapist Lieven Maesschalck lies ahead and that will take months.

This is a setback for Napoli and for the Belgian national squad, the Red Devils. Next month, important matches are scheduled against Kazakhstan (15/11) and Liechtenstein (18/11) for a place in next year's World Cup.

De Bruyne's teammate Romelu Lukaku is also still not ready to be included in the team. He too will be out for weeks with a hamstring injury.
