The socialist rail union ACOD Spoor has said that rail workers will strike for three days at the end of next month. As we reported on Tuesday, the trade unions are planning 3 days of industrial action on Monday 24, Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 November. However, up until now it had only been clear that those that work on the country’s railways would strike on 24 November
On Tuesday the country’s three biggest unions announced three days of action against the Federal Government’s reform plans. When the industrial action was announced, it was said that the strike on the railways would be limited to Monday 24 November. This was to be followed by a strike in the public sector on Tuesday 25 November and a national strike Wednesday 26 November.
Now the socialist rail union ACOD Spoor, the Christian transport union ACV-Transcom and the liberal rail union VSOA Spoor unions are calling on their members to take part in a 72-hour strike. The national secretary of the socialist rail union Nicky Masschelen says that the strike will start at 10 pm on Sunday 23 November and continue until 10 pm Wednesday 26 November.
In the event of rail strikes, an alternative timetable is drawn up based on the number of rail staff that have indicated that they intend to work.
