Belgium’s three major trade unions and various civil society organisations are holding a national trade union day of action against the De Wever I government's reform plans. A big demo is planned in Brussels, but the strike is already causing severe disruption across Belgium’s public transports systems, on the roads and in the air.
Which lines are running at the MIVB?
As expected, the national day of action has disrupted services at the Brussels local transport company, the MIVB.
But metro lines 1 and 5 are currently still running.
Trams 4, 7, 8, 10, 82, 92 and 93 (between Stadion and Park) are also operating.
Bus lines 12, 14, 36, 46, 53, 59, 71, 73, 87 (extended from Simonis to Zwarte Vijvers) and 95 are running. All other lines are not operating.
Flemish local transport company De Lijn is implementing an alternative schedule based on workers willing to work. It can be viewed on De Lijn’s website.
Passengers are advised to plan their journeys using the route planner on the website or in the De Lijn app.
Trains are running, but expect crowds on routes to and from Brussels as demonstrators gather at the North Station.
Vandals disrupt rush hour traffic
The Annie Cordy, Kruidtuin and Rogier tunnels have reopened after persons unknown started a fire above ground. Please be prepared for traffic congestion.
During the worst of the disruption traffic in the Brussels tunnels was at a standstill at Sainctelette. Someone had placed branches and construction site panels on the road above ground and set them on fire.
This led to long traffic jams.
