Prosecutor’s office opens investigation after actors make fake arrest during filming in Limburg town of Beringen

Filming is currently underway in Limburg Province of a new feature film entitled ‘Wa Make’. Last weekend the film crew was in the town of Beringen. On Sunday during their second day of filming in there 2 actors dressed as police officers had to arrest the main character in the film inside a night shop. The main character was forced into a car with a flashing light.

The daily ‘Het Belang van Limburg’ writes that the incident has caused quite a commotion in Beringen, not least as the Carma Local Police Service had given its permission to use its uniforms and a police vehicle with a flashing light. The film’s director has confirmed that this was the case when asked by VRT News.

Flim director Luca Salvatore told VRT News "We used police uniforms and a police car with flashing light from the Carma Local Police Service. They had given us permission to use them”.

"However, apparently the permission was only valid within the boundaries of the City of Genk. The police in Beringen had not been informed”.

Immediate apology

Luca Salvatore told VRT New that he and his crew offered an immediate apology to the Beringen-Ham-Tessenderlo Local Police Service.

“We want this film to be a decent product and in order to achieve this the rules must be followed. This was not done intentionally, and we will certainly clarify things to the relevant authorities".

Nevertheless, the Limburg Prosecutor’s Office has started an investigation. Impersonating a police officer and wearing a police uniform while not being authorised to do so is a criminal offence.

"It is indeed the case that we have opened an investigation into whether the wearing of the police uniform was within the law”, the prosecotor's office said.

The film is due for release in March 2026 and will be shown at Pathé cinemas.
