A career in the maritime sector, at sea or on shore is becoming increasingly popular in a country like Belgium with a long seafaring tradition. Increased recent interest in a job in this sector is also noticeable at the Antwerp Maritime Academy in the northern port city of Antwerp. The number of first-year students has jumped by a quarter in comparison with last year. Both marine engineering and nautical sciences are attracting new students.
