'Mousty' draws 10-tonne fire truck with his hair: ‘I want to inspire people to persevere’ says Syrian refugee

In Lauwe (West Flanders), Moustapha Alkhathib managed to set a fire engine in motion by pulling it forward with his hair.  The Syrian refugee displayed his powers during the fire brigade's open day. He dragged the 10,000-kilogram weighing vehicle forward by 13.9 metres.

This is not the 52-year-old Syrian’s first stunt, but he still felt pretty stressed ahead of the feat. ‘I'm a poor sleeper anyway, but I had a really bad night,’ he told our reporter. ‘I know I can do it, but when it's in front of an audience, there's an extra stress factor.’

Inspiring people is Mousty's aim

Several dozen spectators cheered Moustapha on. And it helped. In the end, he managed to move the ten-tonne truck 13.9 metres in 1 minute and 2 seconds. ‘I'm proud that I did it,’ he said, panting. ‘I want to inspire people to persevere.’

A horrowing story

Moustapha fled to Belgium after bombing in Syria struck his family home in 2012. He lost his three daughters, son and wife in an instant. I cry myself to sleep more often than not, but I can't show it. I want to radiate positive energy. It's a mask, I know, but I also believe in karma. People who do good will be rewarded. This stunt allows me to prove that perseverance pays off.
