At a hearing in Kortrijk (West Flanders) it was decided that a 47-year-old man suspected of having stabbed to death three people in the West Flemish town of Roeselare will remain in custody for a further month. The man’s lawyer says that her client is cooperating fully with the investigation. His motive remains unclear.
Just three days prior to triple murder the man had been convicted of domestic violence against his wife and children. He was given a 1-year prison sentence, half of which was suspended. On Tuesday it emerged that the acquaintance killed on Sunday had reported having received death threats from suspect in 2023.
The suspect was formally arrested and charged with three counts of murder on Wednesday. At a remand hearing on Friday morning, it was decided that he should remain in custody for another month.
The motive for the murders remains unclear. Lawyer Iris Roegiers will only say that her client is cooperating fully with the investigation. At Friday morning’s hearing she did not request his release. Ms Roegiers is refraining from any further comment on the case.
