The cyclist Remco Evenepoel has won the time trial at the World Cycling Championships in Kigali, Rwanda. The 25-year-old from Schepdaal, near Dilbeek, in Flemish Brabant put in a dominant performance to take his third consecutive world title.
He completed the time trial more than 1 minute ahead of the Australian Jay Vine, who finished second. The Olympic Champion’s Belgian teammate Ilan Van Wilder came in third.
Ahead of the race it had appeared that Remco Evenpoel’s biggest challenger would be the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar.
However, Evenepoel overtook him on the cobbled uphill climb towards the end of the 40.8km race. Tadej Pogacar finished fourth, 2:37 minutes behind the Belgian.
