Metro services in Brussels were completely halted for half an hour on Friday lunchtime. The Brussels public transport company MIVB says that the metro was halted for safety reasons following a technical issue. Services resumed at around 1:15pm.
All services on the Brussels metro were suspended for around half an hour on Friday lunchtime due to a technical failure. MIVB says that the failure caused several of its communication lines to stop working. With drivers unable to communicate with the central dispatch, it was decided that services should be suspended for safety reasons.
MIVB’s spokesman Laurent Vermeersch says that metro trains were able to go to the next station to allow their passengers to alight and now passengers were stuck in trains inside a tunnel. “All passengers were able to get off. Services resumed at around 1.15 pm.
All 4 metro lines were affected. These are metro line 1 between Weststation and Stokkel, line 2 between Simonis and Elisabeth, line 5 between Erasmus and Hermann-Debroux and line 6 between Koning Boudewijn and Elisabeth.
