In October 2023 a 42-year-old man was found dead at his home in Borgloon. The emergency services were called, but they were unable to revive him. An autopsy found that he had an unusually high level of methanol in his body.

In the spring of this year the 28-year-old widow of the man was arrested on suspicion of poisoning. She spent a period on remand but was conditionally released. However, as she failed to comply with the conditions she was returned to prison. On Tuesday she was released again with an electronic tag. The woman denies any involvement in her late husband’s death.

The second investigation concerns the death of a 51-year-old woman from the west of Limburg Province. Here the chief suspect is a 51-year-old man. He is currently serving a prison sentence for other crimes. A second suspect, a woman, has been questioned as his accomplice.
