Writing on X, Mr Buda said “They shot the entire side of my car with an air rifle. Brussels barbarism!”. The photograph under his post shows the cracked side door window of his car.

“There were nine precision shots. I was not in the car at the time of the attack, and only my car was shot at. It looks like a deliberate attack. The Belgian security services are looking into it. Thank you for the many expressions of support.”

It is as yet unclear whether the attack was politically motivated or an act of vandalism. Niether the Brussels Local Police Service nor the Public Prosecutor’s Office have yet confirmed whether they have opened an investigation. It is also still not clear where exactly the incident took place.

A former Polish government minister, Mr Buda has been an MEP since July 2024.
