The company’s Raphael Ceuppens told VRT News that “We regret this, as it is not good news for local employment, but market conditions are challenging, and scale of production is very important. This means that we need to look at optimising both costs and revenues."

MBT Climate will transfer its production and ventilation system assembly capacity from Dilsen to a factory at Stribro in the Czech Republic. It is there that all the company’s other products are made.

Talks between management and the unions

Mr Ceuppens told VRT News that “We will start talks with the unions as soon as possible to minimise the impact on the employees concerned. We realise that this is not an easy message to deliver and we will do everything we can to help them find another job”.

Glenn Schreurs of the Christian trade union ACV Metea told the VRT that “It's not a complete surprise, but it's still a hammer blow for those that are losing their job”.

The union says that it will try to and keep as many jobs as possible in Dilsen.

Around 65 white collar and 17 blue collar workers will be able to continue working at MBT Climate’s Dilsen site. According to the company, customers will not be affected by its restructuring plan.
