The European Parliament has decided that from now on manufacturers of textiles including clothes and shoes must also ensure that these products are properly collected and recycled. The aim is to reduce the mountain of textile waste and to encourage recycling and more sustainable materials. Currently, 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste are created in the European Union every year, 5.2 million tonnes of which are clothes and shoes. Report: Pascale Mertens.
