Climbers from the Brussels Fire Service have removed 2 men from the scaffolding that was erected to allow for restoration work to be carried out at the Saint Peter’s Church in the municipality of Jette. The 2 men, both of whom are from Jette, had climbed the scaffolding in order to make a film that they intended to post on their social media accounts.
Fire Service climbers remove 2 men that had scaled scaffolding around Brussels church
This is the second time in less than a week that Jette’s Saint Peter’s Church has been in the news. A couple of days ago, a cross with a weather cock returned to the church spire after an absence of more than 20 years. On Wednesday morning fire fighters were called to the church to remove 2 men that had climbed the scaffolding erected for the renovation work.
The Brussels Fire Service spokesman Walter Derieuw told VRT News that "This morning at 6am we received a call about two men that had climbed the scaffolding of Saint Peter's Church in Jette. Both men, one of whom in their 20s the other in their 30s, are from Jette. They had climbed onto the scaffolding to make a video for their social media accounts.
Climbing team
“We immediately dispatched our climbing team to the scene. Upon arrival, we saw that our 30-metre ladder was not long enough to reach the 2 people that were on the scaffolding so we brought in our ladder truck that has a 65-metre ladder. Eventually our climbing was able to guide the 2 people down.”
