The Brussels fire service had to respond to 84 call-outs last night due to heavy storm weather across the Brussels region. Fallen trees and broken branches caused most of the issues but several streets were also flooded. In the borough of Anderlecht, solar panels were torn off a roof. Fortunately, no one was injured.
16 call-outs involved various objects that had been blown away by the wind. On 38 occasions fire-fighters were called to deal with fallen trees and torn-off branches. 30 incidents centred on streets that had been flooded by heavy rainfall.
On the Bergensesteenweg in Anderlecht solar panels were torn off the roof of a house, causing damage to the roof. The Mettewielaan in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek was partially flooded, and on the Josse Goffinlaan in Sint-Agatha-Berchem, a fallen tree had to be removed. No one was injured.
During the course of Wednesday afternoon, i.e. before 5 p.m., the fire service had already been called out 16 times to deal with incidents resulting from strong gusts of wind. This included 11 interventions for uprooted trees and broken branches and five for various objects that had been blown away, such as a sunshade, flags and a cable. A tree had blown over on the Brugmannlaan in Ukkel, causing disruption to both road and tram traffic for some time.
