This is not the first time the Israeli Prime Minister has made such comments about foreign leaders. He accused former Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo of ‘supporting terrorism’ and recently criticised Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese when he announced his intention to recognise Palestine. ‘Albanese is a weak prime minister who has betrayed Israel,’ Netanyahu said.

Earlier in the week, both the Flemish and federal governments reached an agreement on Gaza. The federal government headed by PM Bart De Wever (Flemish nationalist) agreed on a series of sanctions against Israel and on conditional recognition of Palestine. The conditions include the release of all hostages and the complete disarmament and dissolution of Hamas.
