The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) based in Ukkel (Brussels) has issued a code yellow weather warning for the whole of Flanders and Brussels. Thunderstorms are expected and there will also be strong winds, according to RMI forecasts. This coming weekend will see a return to summery temperatures.
This afternoon, there is an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms. In the west and centre of the country, the RMI expects gusts of between 70 and 80 km/h, with locally even higher wind speeds possible. Maximum temperatures will range from 18 to 19 degrees Celsius in the Ardennes to 23 degrees in Lower Belgium.
Tonight, dry conditions return to most places with widespread clear skies. The wind will decrease in intensity, and minimum temperatures will range from 11 degrees in the High Fens to 15 to 16 degrees in central parts.
Tomorrow/Thursday will also start off fairly sunny, but the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase again in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures will range from 17 to 22 degrees. Especially in the west, there is still a chance of gusts up to 50 km/h. It may also turn rainy, and thunderstorms may occur in the evening, with minimum temperatures between 10 degrees in the Ardennes and 15 degrees on the Flemish coast.
From Friday onwards, the weather will improve. It will remain dry, except for a few local showers. The wind will be moderate with maximum temperatures ranging between 16 degrees in the High Fens and 21 or 22 degrees in central parts. At the weekend, temperatures rise to 24 degrees on Saturday and even 28 degrees on Sunday. However, rain may return on Sunday evening.
