Drunk motorist injures seven police officers and damages around 20 cars during chase in Brussels
‘On Monday around 7PM, the police were called to a fight in a café on the Houba de Strooperlaan in Laken,’ explains Laura Demullier of the Brussels public prosecutor's office. ‘When the police approached one of those involved fled the scene in a car. During his getaway, the man injured a police officer by deliberately driving into him.’
Twenty cars damaged in the process
The police immediately gave chase. During his flight the suspect allegedly drove into several police officers, who were only able to escape just in time. ‘During his getaway, the man also damaged around 20 vehicles, drove through several red lights and down a street against the traffic.’
The suspect was eventually apprehended but resisted arrest and, in the process, injured several police officers. ‘A total of seven police officers were injured,’ the public prosecutor's office reports. ‘Some of them so severely they are unable to work for up to six days.’
The suspect faces charges of malicious obstruction of traffic, attempted manslaughter, armed resistance and public drunkenness.
