A man has been given a 30-month sentence for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on a train in 2023
A Brussels court has imposed a sentence of 30 months – 10 of those suspended – on a man who sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl in a train travelling from Leuven to Brussels.
The incident happened in the summer of 2023. The girl was standing near a door in the train when the 29-year-old man cornered her and made unwanted sexual contact, including under her clothes. The man got off the train in Brussels North.
The police had no leads until March of 2024 when a public appeal was released. Just one day later, the man turned himself in. He claimed that the girl had consented to the physical contact, but the prosecutor found this not only implausible but legally irrelevant as the victim was a minor.
