The shooting took place around 4 a.m. this morning at an apartment on the Voorhavenlaan in Ostend. A 17-year-old boy was critically injured and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The investigation into the events is still ongoing. The West Flanders public prosecutor's office has appointed a forensic doctor and a weapons expert. Technicians are carrying out a forensic investigation at the flat. It is not yet clear what exactly happened.
After the shooting, the suspects fled in the direction of the Netherlands. Their number plate was recognised by a camera at the border crossing in Woensdrecht (Netherlands), after which police gave chase. Four suspects were eventually arrested on the A16 motorway near Lage Zwaluwe, in the Dutch province of North Brabant. According to the public prosecutor's office, further investigation will be needed to determine whether the four can be linked to the shooting.
