The accident happened around midnight at the Brussels North Station. The victim died after being hit by a train. ‘I can confirm that the victim was a train surfer,’ says Laura Demullier of the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office. ‘One person fell and was hit by a train. The emergency services arrived at the scene, but it was too late to help.’

The public prosecutor's office was as yet unable to provide any information about the identity of the victim.

Train surfing is a dangerous and illegal activity in which people cling onto a moving train. Train surfers often even climb onto the roof of the vehicle.
