Bpost updates King Filip’s image on Belgian stamps

Later this year, Belgian postal services provider Bpost will release new stamps bearing the image of Filip, King of Belgians. According to tradition, new stamps featuring the monarch are issued every 10 years.

The new stamps feature a portrait of King Filip based on an official photograph by photographer Bas Bogaerts.  The stamp was engraved by international expert Martin Mörck. The design was entrusted to Myriam Voz, graphic designer at the Stamp Printing Office in Mechelen.

‘This combination of photography, engraving and graphic design gives the stamps an identity that is both contemporary and timeless,’ Bpost writes in a well-drafted press release.

There will be three versions of the new stamp: a green stamp for non-priority mail with the value 1, a pink stamp for non-priority mail with the value 2 and a yellow version for priority mail.

The new stamps are so-called permanent stamps. These are stamps that are permanently available. In addition, Bpost issues limited editions of stamps every year. This year, these include stamps commemorating the 600th anniversary of Leuven University.
