Belgium’s national men’s football team the Red Devils have suffered a major blow of next month’s World Cup qualifying matches. On Monday Lukaku’s club Napoli announced that the striker will be out of action for “a significant period".
Romelu Lukaku hobbled off the pitch clutching his thigh during a friendly match between Napoli and the Greek side Olympiacos. In a statement released on Monday Napoli said that Lukaku’s injury was serious and that he will be out of action for some considerable time yet.
Tests at the Pineta Grande Hospital just outside Napels revealed a high-grade injury to the rectus femoris muscle in Lukaku’s left thigh. The injury means that Romelu Lukaku will miss next month’s World Cup Qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Kazakhstan and Belgium qualifying match against North Macedonia on 10 October.
