Police in Lier (Antwerp Province) have arrested 2 suspects as a part of an international drugs investigation. The arrests followed searches at three properties in Lier and Antwerp. During the searches large quantities of drugs, guns, bullets and 6,000 euro in cash were found.
On 16 August police found a small laboratory that was being used for the production of the drug GHB at the home of a 42-year-old man in the Antwerp district of Deurne.
In addition to this they also found speed, MDMA, ecstasy tablets, ketamine, and a sum in cash.
Large international drug network
Further investigation led the police to a second suspect, a 63-year-old man from Antwerp who was working for a larger international drug network.
He sold speed, cannabis, ketamine, cocaine, XTC and MDMA all over Flanders. The drugs were imported from the Netherlands and then sold locally to order. The suspect has previous convictions for serious offences, including drug-related crimes.
The two suspects appeared before an examining magistrate on Monday. It was decided that they be formally arrested.
