Cocaine intercepted on way to Antwerp, hidden in containers of meat

Customs officers have intercepted 88kg of cocaine at the port of Rotterdam, destined for Antwerp. The drugs were hidden in two containers filled with meat.

The Dutch public prosecution Service says the cocaine was found behind the inspection hatches of two refrigerated containers from Uruguay and Argentina.

“Hiding cocaine in inspection hatches has been happening regularly in recent years,” says the public prosecutor. “The drugs can be quickly removed by thieves at the container terminal. By carrying out many checks targeting this method, the customs service is trying to seize as many drugs as possible”

The drugs have already been destroyed and the HARC team, a partnership between customs, the FIOD fraud investigation service, the seaport police and the public prosecution service in Rotterdam, is investigating the matter.
