The Flemish Roads and Traffic Agency has started what will be a month of resurfacing work on a 3.5km stretch of the Brussels Orbital Motorway between Beersel and the Halle interchange in Flemish Brabant. The Flemish Traffic Centre expects delays to traffic on the motorway during the morning and evening rush hours.
Both carriageways will be resurfaced during the next 4 weeks. Heavy traffic, particularly the large number of lorries using the road, has resulted in damage to the road surface. The work will involve the removal of the road surface to a depth of 12cm. After this the road will be resurfaced and new road marking applied. The width of the lanes will also be “optimised” to improve safety on what is one of the country’s busiest sections of motorway.
From Monday 4 August until the end of the month 2 lanes rather than 3 lanes will be open to traffic in both directions. Access and exit slip roads to and from the motorway will be closed as and when the roadworks necessitate it.
Delays can be expected for traffic on the northbound carriageway during the morning rush hour and on the southbound carriageway during the evening rush hour. Meanwhile, roadworks on the nearby A8 motorway that links Halle with the Walloon city of Tournai means that one lane of the motorway is closed to traffic.
