Krayem is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence in France for his role in the Paris attacks of 13 November 2015. In 2023, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Belgium for his involvement in the attacks in the Belgian capital on 22 March 2016. He was supposed to blow himself up in the Brussels metro, but did not go through with it.
Krayem grew up in Malmö, Sweden, and in 2014 joined the terrorist group IS in Syria. At the end of 2014, the plane of a Jordanian pilot Muath Al-Kasasbeh was shot down near Raqqa, Syria. The pilot was captured and held in a cage and then burned alive. The pilot's execution was filmed and distributed by the terrorist group.
According to the Swedish public prosecutor's office, Krayem was involved in the pilot's execution. Krayem is said to have guarded the pilot while he was imprisoned in the cage. The public prosecutor's office described it as ‘one of the most brutal murders carried out by IS in Syria’.
During the trial, Krayem admitted that he was indeed present at the scene but denied any involvement in the events. The court in Sweden sentenced Krayem to life imprisonment for serious war crimes and terrorism. Following the conclusion of this trial in Sweden, the Swedish terrorist will now be transferred back to prison in France.
