Free Dutch language summer camp for newcomer children

Pajottegem, a municipality in Flemish Brabant, is organising a Dutch language summer camp for last year kindergartners and children in the first and second years of primary school. Until 8 August, the children are being immersed in the language of Belgium’s majority community.

The municipality, a recent merger of Herne, Gooik and Galmaarden, is eager to help newcomers express themselves fluently in Dutch.

Teachers and social workers asked the parents of a number of children who need extra support with their Dutch to participate in the project. A total of 16 children from Pajottegem are taking part.

Free thanks to Flemish government support

A day at camp is divided into an educational part in the morning, mainly focused on the Dutch language, but supplemented by entertaining fun and (language) games in the afternoon. At the end of the camp, the children will receive a valuable gift.

Participation in the camp is completely free of charge thanks to support from the Flemish home affairs agency. It takes place at the H6 Municipal Primary School in Galmaarden.
