PM says that “Green light” has been given for Belgian humanitarian aid for Gaza

The Federal Prime Minister Bart De Wever (Flemish nationalist) says that Belgium is making preparations to send humanitarian aid to help the people of Gaza. Writing on the social media platform X, Mr De Wever said that Belgium is cooperating with partner countries in making to preparations for airdrops of humanitarian aid from the skies above Gaza.

"The renewed access for airdrops and UN aid convoys over land provide Belgium with a concrete opportunity to make a contribution to improving the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. We have been given the green light by Jordan to make this contribution in the short term”.

Mr De Wever went on to stress that Belgium and its European partners continue to press for “safe and accessible aid”. "If this isn’t feasible, we can’t rule out further measures or sanctions”.

At the same time the Belgian Prime calls for a clear and unambiguous stance on Israel. "Hamas is a terrorist group that is still holding hostages and takes pleasure in sacrificing Palestinian civilians. However, Israel is a western democracy and it should be held to account as such. The suffering of Palestinian civilians must stop. The co-existence of Israel and a democratic Palestinian state is the only way to peace”, Mr De Wever said.
