New exhibition uses state of the art technology to bring the world of Salvador Dalí to life

A new exhibition at the Oud Sint-Jan Museum in the West Flemish city of Brussels uses state of the art digital technology to bring the world of the 20th century surrealist artist Salvador Dalí to life. The Dalí Cybernetics exhibition uses 360° projection, interactive exhibits and a metaverse experience imagination to take visitors on an immersive journey through the iconic Catalan artist’s imagination.

The aim of the exhibition that will run for at least 6 months is to make Salvador Dalí's surrealism accessible to a wider audience by creating a multisensory experience.

Visitors can explore a series of exhibition rooms where Salvador Dalí's distinctive art is projected onto walls, floors and ceilings. This is accompanied by atmospheric soundscapes and dynamic visuals. In the exhibition’s ‘Immersive Room’, works of art appear to move and evolve. This creates a feeling of having stepped straight into the surrealist artist’s dreamlike universe.

Permanent exhibition at Museum-Gallery Xpo

Some of Salvador Dalí's art has been on display for many years at a permanent exhibition at the Museum-Gallery Xpo inside the city’s Belfry. There visitors can admire some of the artists paitings and sculptures. The Dalí Cybernetics highlights the existing connection with Bruges but also offers a new digital dimension.

Interaction

Interactivity is actively encouraged throughout the exhibition. A sketch-and-post area offers visitors the opportunity to display their creative prowess. There is also an interactive floor that responds to movement. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the Metaverse Zone. Here virtual reality headsets and controls allow visitors to navigate their way through a digital environment that has been shaped by Salvador Dalí’s artistic vision.

The Oud Sint-Jan Museum has invested 750,000 euro in an effort to shift towards more immersive and digital art formats. It is hope that this will serve to captivate contemporary audiences and stimulate their interest in art.
