Belgium to wait until early September before deciding position on recognition of a Palestinian state

The Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot (Francophone centrist) has said that Belgium’s position regarding the official recognition of a Palestinian state will be “determined by the government in early September.”

The French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed on Thursday that France will recognise the Palestinian state at the next meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in September.

The Belgian government's position will be determined in the run-up to the UN General Assembly meeting and a possible summit on Palestine that would be held in the margins of the meeting.

It is highly likely that Belgium and France will hold further bilateral talks of the issue before the Belgian government makes its decision on the recognition of a Palestinian state.
