16 Wetstraat, the office of the Federal Prime Minister, has a new resident. PM Bart De Wever (Flemish nationalist) has adopted a Scottish fold cat from an animal sanctuary in East Flanders. The cat that Mr De Wever has called Maximus Textoris Pulcher appears to have settled in well at his new home.
PM adopts an abandoned cat to keep him company while he is working at his Brussels office
Writing on Facebook and Instagram, Mr De Wever announced that he now has a fury assistant to keep him company while he is at work at his Brussels office. “A grey eminence has joined the staff at 16 Wetstraat”
Maximus Textoris Pulcher was adopted from the Poezenbos animal sanctuary in Buggenhout (East Flanders). Mr De Wever says that the cat has been living at 16 Wetstraat for several weeks now and that the grey Scottish fold tom cat feels very much at home there. “He has already made his influence felt during the negotiations on the Summer Agreement”, the Belgian Prime Minister joked.
The purr-fect compagnon
“We had been thinking about adopting a cat for a while, as we are cat lovers. But we had to find a cat that could live indoors”, Mr De Wever told VRT Radio 2 on Wednesday morning. “A colleague spotted Maximus on Poezenbos’ website. He is FIV-positive, which means to prevent him infecting other cats he can’t go outside”.
