The Bilzen section of Christian youth association Chiro faced an unexpected challenge this month after a catering order went dreadfully wrong. The Limburgers were heading off on a summer camping expedition and wanted to make sure they could count of sufficient sustenance. They planned to order 290 bratwursts or continental sausages from supermarket chain Colruyt, but the sausages were packed by tens and the Chiro in Bilzen ended up with 2,900 bratwursts, at least 2,500 too many for the young mouths.
Youth association Chiro campers stuck with 2,500 bratwursts after wrong order
The Bilzen Chiro division took to social media in an attempt to offload the excess sausages.
"Bratwursts for sale” they posted. “We had too many delivered. 2,500 available. Price negotiable and delivery possible, are now in cold storage in Kiewit".
‘We are camping in Kiewit but something went wrong when ordering the food,’ supervisor Stef Coomans explained. 'We had ordered 290 bratwursts through Colruyt's website. That’s what we thought, but they turned out to be packed per 10. But that wasn't clear on the website. So suddenly we were stuck with 2,900 sausages instead of 290."
Chiro calls it a classic ordering error. 'We‘ve made this mistake before, but never in such numbers" Stef explained.
Shame to throw them away
As tasty as the sausages are, the Chiro youngsters can't eat them all themselves. 'The sausages are on our menu tonight, but we can't eat 2,900.'
Thanks to the enterprising youngsters all the sausages have now been sold and won’t end up in the bin. ‘Thanks to all buyers!’, the youngsters posted on Facebook.
