‘Heartbreaking’: Musicians react to Tomorrowland fire

The music world is shocked by the news of the fire that destroyed the Main Stage at Tomorrowland. “I am speechless,” said Belgian DJ Charlotte De Witte, who was scheduled to open and close the Main Stage on Saturday. Fellow DJs Dimitri Vegas and Martin Garrix also shared their condolences, as did other music festivals.

Dimitri Vegas was one of the first to respond to the terrible news. He shared a photo of a broken golden heart with the Tomorrowland logo inside on his Instagram.

With his brother, Dimitri Vegas forms the world-famous DJ duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. They play at Tomorrowland almost every year and were scheduled to perform on the Main Stage on Saturday.

De Witte was due to be the opening and closing act on the Main Stage on Saturday. “I saw the images on the news. This is heartbreaking,” she wrote on Instagram. Under Tomorrowland’s own Instagram post, she wrote: “I am speechless. My heart and thoughts are with you at this difficult time.”

Nobody was injured in the  fire. “Glad to hear everyone is safe,” Dutch DJ Martin Garrix wrote under Tomorrowland’s post on Instagram.

The DJ group Swedish House Mafia closed the main stage at Tomorrowland last year. “Terrible news about the fire,” they said. “I hope everyone is safe and no one has been hurt. Our thoughts are with the entire Tomorrowland family and everyone who is going to the festival this year.”

Belgium’s other festivals, which are busy setting up or dismantling their own events, are also reflecting on the news in Boom. “We send all our love and support to Tomorrowland,” Rock Werchter posted on Instagram.

Pukkelpop, due to take place from 14 to 17 August, also offered its support. “Let's stand with our Tomorrowland family! Please send them all your love and support,” the festival posted on Instagram.
