Shortly before 1pm, metro traffic on lines 2 and 6 was halted after the body of a man was found in the tunnel between stops Hallepoort and Munthof. As a result, no metro trains operated between the stops Troon and Zuidstation.
Metro traffic in Brussels partially halted after body found in tunnel
The victim is thought to have died in the tunnel. It is not yet clear under which circumstances. The time of death is the subject of an investigation. Due to the darkness in the tunnel, the body may not have been noticed for a while.
Emergency services, including the police and the public prosecutor's office, attended the scene to investigate the exact circumstances. While the situation is being investigated, metro traffic on that stretch remains suspended. ‘It is difficult to estimate how long the investigation will last,’ said MIVB spokesman Laurent Vermeersch.
Alternative routes for travellers
There is still metro traffic to stops Kunst-Wet and Zuidstation that can be used as interchanges. Travellers are advised to take lines 1 or 5 to De Brouckère, and there to change to line 4 or 10 towards the South Station.
