Aging portraits added to names on Belgium’s Most Wanted list

The federal police have added 3 names to Belgium’s Most Wanted list, the list of the most wanted fugitive criminals. Ageing portraits have also been made of some of those on the list, including Turkish national Fehriye Erdal (photo top), who has been missing since 2006.

The 3 names added to the list today are Vladimir Cheremet, Jeton Begesi and Dmitriy Teretchenko. Five more will be added later this month, police say.

Vladimir Cheremet is a Latvian aged 74. In 2007 he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder by the assize court of Flemish Brabant.

Jeton Begesi (30), who is of Moroccan origin, was sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison in Antwerp in 2015 for kidnapping, hostage-taking and rape.

Dmitriy Teretchenko (35) absconded from a psychiatric hospital in Brussels in February last year where he had been interned on account of a murder committed in 2011. He was born in Russia but holds Belgian nationality. He may have returned to Russia.

Aging portraits added

Ageing portraits have also been made of three people on the list. Besides the aforementioned Vladimir Cheremet, these include Wim Beckmann and Fehriye Erdal.

Beckmann murdered his girlfriend in 2008. He also set fire to the villa where they were staying. Fehriye Erdal was convicted in Belgium in 2017 for involvement in 3 murders in Turkey. These were carried out by the far-left organisation DHKP-C, to which Erdal belonged. She has been without a trace since 2006.

Belgium's Most Wanted list was first published in the autumn of 2016. Its aim is to obtain as much information as possible from the public at large regarding fugitive criminals, so that they can be tracked down to serve their sentences or face trial.
