In Bruges the curators of the Triennial, the 3-yearly art and architecture festival in the West Flemish capital, have been announced . Two Swedes Ulrika Flink and Helen Rix Runting will head the next edition of the festival. The 5th edition of the Triennial takes place in 2027.
The two Swedish women together applied to become curators of the Triennial. They will now shape the artistic team and set out the artistic line of the upcoming festival edition.
Bruges mayor Dirk De fauw: "They have a lot of experience with triennials and other temporary exhibitions. They also complement each other. Ulrike Flink focuses more on art while Helen Rix Runting is mainly concerned with architecture. That combination of art and architecture is just what we wanted at our triennial."
Ulrika Flink has been curator of major international art events in Norway, Sweden and Turkey. Helen Rix Runting(photo below) is an architectural theorist and urban planner. She co-founded an architecture business in Stockholm, which she now heads. Their installations have been exhibited in Sweden, Norway, China, Georgia and Australia.
Mayor De fauw: "Their appointment means we are confirming our ambition to put Bruges on the international map as a platform for innovative art and architecture in the public space. Their fresh perspective and extensive international experience perfectly match the vision of Triennial Bruges."
