Laura Demullier of the Brussels prosecutor’s office told journalists that “Last night an argument between 2 people resulted in a fight in the Lang-Levenstraat in Elsene. One of the two people was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he later died of his injuries”. This confirms an earlier report by the Francophone commercial broadcaster RTL-TVI.

Manslaughter

The assailant fled the scene on foot, but police have since been able to apprehend them. “The prosecutor’s office has opened a manslaughter investigation. The Federal Judicial Police lab and a pathologist have been appointed to ascertain what exactly happened”, Ms Demullier said

Staff from the prosecutor’s office and an examining magistrate visited the scene on Friday morning.

“In the interests of the investigation and out of respect for the relatives of the victim the prosecutor’s office will be giving no further details at this stage”.
