Stop-drive notice issued for 28,000 Citroën cars sold in Belgium

Stellantis the company that owns the car maker Citroën has issued a stop-drive notice for nearly 28,000 Citroën C3 or DS3 cars that were sold in Belgium. Thursday’s news that a stop-drive notice had been issued for Citroën C3 and DS3 cars in Belgium follows a fatal accident in France last week in which a motorist died of injuries caused by a faulty airbag.

The accident prompted Citroën to send out a stop-drive notice for many European countries (but not Belgium) affected models on Tuesday. This urged those with Citroën C3 or DS3 not to use their cars until the airbag is replaced. Around 441,000 vehicles are equipped with the faulty airbag.

Initially, the stop-drive notice did not include vehicles sold in Belgium. Stellantis Belux had initiated a recall process for the affected models in April, but those who had not yet received a letter were able to carry on using their cars.

However, this changed on Thursday, when Stellantis Belux confirmed it had issued stop-drive notices for almost 28,000 Citroën models in Belgium. Owners of Citroën C3 and DS3 models built between 2009 and 2018 equipped with a Takata airbag will receive a notice, asking them to stop using their car and have the airbag replaced as soon as possible.
