The Flemish Government is investing a further 2.77 billion euro in the purchase of shares in the company that runs Belgium’s largest airport at Zaventem in Flemish Brabant. This makes Flanders the largest shareholder in the Brussels Airport Company.

Flanders’ additional investment of 2.77 billion euro is being made via the regional investment fund PMV. It brings the Flemish Region’s state in the Brussels’ Airport Company to 39%. The Flemish Prime Minister Matthias Diependaele (nationalist) says that this makes Flanders the largest shareholder in Belgium's largest airport. Previously, Flanders owned just 1% of the shares, but now it has an additional 38%.
"We want to be in the cockpit when it comes to the future of our airport. If we don't have a say, someone else will”, Mr Diependaele said.
While the Flemish Prime Minister recognises that 2.77 billion euro is a large investment, he is adamant that the investment will pay off in the form of dividends from 2028.
