The prosecutor’s office says that “From the information we have now it would appear that a minor rode off on a scooter when the police had wanted to check his identity. The boy fled after which he was persued”. Why the police wished to check the boy’s identity is unclear. One possibility is that they want to establish his aged. The law stipulates that a person has to be at least 16 years old in order to ride an e-scooter.

A road traffic accident expert must now establish the precise circumstances surrounding the accident. A pathologists will carry out an autopsy on the dead boy’s body to establish the precise cause of death. The Standing Police Monitoring Committee, Comité P is also involved in the investigation. "Those that were involved are currently being questioned."

Tracks on the ground clearly indicate that the accident happened on the gras and not on the path in the park.
