17.5-year driving ban for influence that filmed himself driving up to 250 km/h through the streets of Brussels
In May 2023 the Brussels prosecutor’s office opened an investigation after films appeared on social media of a man that had filmed himself while driving at high speed.
Checks on adil.gofast’s Instagram account revealed that he had rented dozens of sport’s cars. They were registered in either Poland or Germany. The prosecutor’s office said that it was blatantly obvious that the man had a complete disregard for traffic regulations.
Excess speed was just one example of this. The films show him reaching speeds of up to 250 km/h and performing dangerous manoeuvres when he was overtaking other cars.
“The man filmed what he did and published his own films on social media. There he had more than 40,000 followers.”
At the trial that accused failed to attend it emerged that adil.gofast had previously been banned from driving but had disregarded the ban. He had also been caught several times driving under the influence of drugs. He has previous conviction for drugs and driving offences, including a hit-and-run
The prosecutor weighed heavily on the fact that the man had recently posted new videos online, even though he had been summoned to appear before a magistrate’s court and had even spent some time on remand at the start of the investigation. “He posted another video in April showing him at the wheel of an Audi driving at speeds of more than 100 km/h through Brussels' road tunnels.”
Taking exams and tests
The prosecution asked the magistrate to impose the maximum sentence, which he did. The defendant was found guilty and 3 driving bans of 5 years, 2 driving bans of 1 year and one 6-month driving ban were imposed. He was issued fines of 25,600 euro. The man must also retake his driving tests as well as undergoing medical and psychological tests.
