According to figures released in its annual report, MIVB recorded 401.9 million journeys during 2024. Meanwhile, the Brussels public transport company’s vehicles covered a staggering 52.8 million km during the course of last year.

Further investment

MIVB has pledged to continue to invest in providing a quality service with further modernisations of its fleet planned. This includes the acquisition of new metro trains, trams, and electric buses. By the end of 2024 30 of the 43 M7 metro trains were already operation as were 30 of the 90 new-generation trams (TNG) and 15 of the 70 eCitaro electric buses that MIVB had ordered.

These upgrades are part of the Brussels’ public transport company’s plan for a transition towards a fully electric fleet while increasing capacity and passenger comfort.

Satisfied customers

Meanwhile, customer satisfaction remains high, with nearly 80% of passengers giving MIVB’s services at least 7 out of 10. Improved comfort, punctuality, and the frequency of services are cited as major factors contributing to customer satisfaction. Contactless payments are also proving popular among customers purchasing single-journey tickets. In 2024, contactless transactions accounted for 60% of all single-ticket purchases.

The new tram line 10 is proving to be a great success. Since its launch in September last year an average of around 80,000 passengers a day are using the new service.
