The southbound E19 motorway at Loenhout in Antwerp Province was completely blocked on Tuesday morning after a lorry shed its load of carrots across the carriageway. The lorry shed its load after it was involved in a multi-vehicle pile-up with 3 other lorries and a car. A passenger in the car was injured in the crash.
Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Centre told VRT news that the southbound E19 at Loenhout is completely closed and that motorists heading to Antwerp from the north should take the A12 motorway instead. Traffic is being diverted off the E19 via the Loenhout interchange and is able to rejoin the motorway at Brecht.
"Just before 7am 4 lorries and a car were involved in a collision. A load of carrots was shed across the carriageway. The carrots now have to be cleared up. This and the work to remove the vehicles that were involved in the accident mean that it will probably be several hours before the motorway reopens.
