Atelier in Beeld aims to bridge the gap between visual artists and the general public by giving visitors a glimpse behind the scenes. The place where art is created range from attics, kitchens and garden sheds to full-scale professional studios. They are as varied as the works of art that are created in them. Visitors can expect to see everything from paintings, sculptures and ceramics to street art and glasswork.

Among the more unusual venues that are opening their doors are Spreekkamer in Sint-Niklaas (East Flanders). This is a former doctor’s office that now filled with sculptures. In the Antwerp district of Merksem 18 up and coming artists are presenting their work at old police station. At Kessel-Lo (Flemish Brabant), visitors can view the work of Carla Meertens, who transforms found and recycled objects into striking creations.

Studios participating in Atelier in Beeld are open to the public on both Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May from 11:00 to 18:00. Full listings and inspiration tours can be found on the event’s official website.
