A major security check is underway at Ghent prison, following a failed escape attempt. 2 inmates were able to escape from their cell on Sunday night after making a hole in the cell wall.
The Prison Service confirms that 2 inmates at the East Flemish prison were able to escape from their cell but failed to get outside the prison walls.
It is still unclear exactly how they were able to make their escape attempt. 1 of the 2 prisoners involved in the escape attempt suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. The other would-be escape has been put into solitary confinement.
Meanwhile, a major security check is currently underway to see how a repeat of Sunday night’s escape attempt can be prevented.
