Zara opens its largest shop in the world in Antwerp: ‘This confirms Antwerp as an important fashion city’

Spanish fashion and home retail chain Zara is opening its largest shop in the world in Antwerp. It will be located on the so-called Meir Corner, on the corner of the Meir and Jezusstraat. The shop will cover 14,500 square metres on 3 floors. ‘Zara saw the opportunity to move their shore to this location,’ says Nicolas Beausillon, CEO of real estate company Tans Urban Landmarks.

The prestigious building is under construction on the site of the former Proximus building. Here the Karel De Grote-hogeschool will establish a new campus. The commercial space in the new building has now been leased to Zara.

Unique shopping experience in all major cities

‘Zara wants to open large shops in all major cities around the world,’ Nicolas Beausillon says. ‘Here they want to offer a unique shopping experience as a counterbalance to online shopping.’

Zara has long had one of the larger shops on the Meir, Antwerp’s main pedestrianised shopping street. ‘When Zara saw the new project, it decided to move its shop there,’ says Beausillon. ‘This is good news for the Meir and Antwerp as a fashion city.’

The building will be completed in the second half of 2026. A few months later, Zara hopes to open its store.
