In his Mayday message Raoul Hedebouw, leader of the Communist PVDA labour party, has spoken of the special nature of this year’s Mayday holiday.
Communist leader Raoul Hedebouw (PVDA) targets arrows on socialist Vooruit
"Mayday is always a day of struggle, but today even more so. It is a day of struggle against the demolition being inflicted by the Arizona government. People are just not taking it. The protest actions will only stop when the government listens," Mr Hedebouw told VRT News.
PVDA continues to make pension reform its main plank of opposition to Mr De Wever’s 5-way government. "In the small print you read that people are going to be forced to work 2 to 3 years longer. The vast majority of workers are already worked to death before the age of 67."
Mr Hedebouw has Conner Rousseau’s Flemish socialist Vooruit that is part of the De Wever I government in his sights: "Without the votes of Vooruit MPs, there is no wage freeze in Belgium. Without the votes of Vooruit, there is no hunt for the unemployed and the long-term sick. Without the votes of Vooruit, there are no cuts to pensions. That (Flemish nationalist) N-VA wants to go in this direction is logical, but that Vooruit agrees to it too I cannot understand."
